Government has handed over assorted farming and heavy duty equipment to the Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS).
Handing over the equipment at Correctional Staff Training College in Kabwe on 3rd June 2020, Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo said the gesture was in line with his government’s resolve to improve the performance of the ZCS in the area of agriculture.
Mr Kampyongo said the move was also in fulfilment of government’s policy to engage the Defence and Security institutions in agricultural production to help diversify the economy and increase food security in the country.
Among the procured items include 20 tractors, 20 disc harrows 20 ploughs, 6 combined harvesters and 3 bulldozers.
The equipment were procured under the Poly tech deal where the Service has so far received 45 buses, 45 gen sets and assorted uniforms and other operation gadgets. .
The Minister has since urged the Service to ensure good quality production and value addition in order to compete favourably on the market.
